This major renovation is located in the picturesque, north-eastern Brisbane suburb of Ascot. The owners were keen to transform this 1930s cavity brick home back into the magnificent character it once was, giving it a much-needed modernization while also giving this active family more space to live and play.
The challenge for the owners was that the suburb has several building restrictions on old homes and they did not like any of the renovation ideas that previous owners had drawn up. Through a process of collaboration and honest discussions with the owners, we were able to arrive at a solution that worked for everyone.
The solution was to take the house, a split level 1930s cavity brick home, and add a second storey which incorporated two new bedrooms, each with their own separate ensuites. The master bedroom was given a walk-in robe, built into the existing roof space attic. Both levels had gorgeous spotted gum flooring laid and downstairs, we installed custom cabinetry in the kitchen, including a built-in coffee station. The lower level was completely renovated including a new laundry with custom cabinets. The existing bathroom and separate toilet were fully renovated and we installed ducted air-conditioning throughout. To top it all off, ornate cornices, high-end finishes and many energy-efficient inclusions were applied throughout the home. The charming parts of the house still remain including the lead-light doors and large rooms.
