Reno Rescue 3: Turning Tired Old Homes into Modern Abodes: A Brisbane Case Study

Constructive Homes - Wednesday, January 09, 2019

In this series of amazing transformations, we'll show you how we've listened to our client's frustrations with their existing homes, how we have worked with them to overcome these challenges and what we did to turn their tired old homes into modern abodes.

Our expert team has been adding extreme value to Brisbane homes for almost 30 years. Our mission is to create exceptional and distinctive spaces in our client's existing homes through our belief in delivering the highest standard of finish and service.

Our Client's Vision: More Space

Our client first approached us to investigate the idea of renovating their family home located in one of Brisbane’s western suburbs. Our clients loved the area and suburb they lived at; it was positioned close to their work, local schools, restaurants and eateries. However, they were frustrated with their current home not being large enough for their growing family and nowhere to entertain guests. So, more space was their main criteria and a separate area of the home for the parents to retire to after a busy day.

They needed a builder who was empathetic towards their needs and was willing to be part of their journey and guide them through the process to get the best out of their budget and their vision.

Transforming Our Client's Home: Planning Begins

Our clients required additional space for their growing family, a spacious kitchen which needed to open onto the formal Lounge Room and new Dining Room positioned close to the kitchen. A new Laundry positioned on this level was a must have as well. The existing house was a semi-modern single storey designed home built in the 1960s with approximately 100 square metres floor area and sited on a 600 square metre lot with a heavy slope to the rear of the block.

After much consideration and logically thinking through the concerns of our clients with the current layout and design of the existing home, we decided to introduce a single level addition beside the existing Kitchen, these additions would incorporate a new Dining Room with built-in Laundry and Parents Retreat including Ensuite & Walk In Robe.

What We Did to Achieve Our Client's Vision

Considering the Kitchen is the central position in the home where family members meet and congregate, we started at this position creating an open living area. The existing Kitchen was completely redesigned to suit the family chef incorporating Island Bench with double bowl sinks and additional Bench space along with cupboard storage, also included were dual Ovens.

Off the Kitchen we added a new Dining Room with Laundry built into a cupboard recess. Adjoining this room was the extra large Master Bedroom incorporating a built-in Walk-in Wardrobe including floor to ceiling cupboard space and Duchess. A spacious resort style Ensuite complemented the Parents Retreat.

All cabinetry was finished in White 2 Pac with Caesarstone benchtops and highly polished Australian native hardwood floors which gave it the desired contrast is so required.

Under the new first floor additions on the ground floor level we added an entertaining area which included a coloured concrete floor with space for a future external Kitchen.
